Why You Should Have Your Roof Inspected This Winter

With the first snowfall come and gone, it is critical to make sure your roof is prepared for unpredictable snow, wind, and ice throughout the season. While there may be some snow left on the ground, there is still plenty of time to schedule a roof inspection and maintenance service to keep your building safe.

Perform a Visual Inspection

You should be performing visual inspections of your roof at least once per month, especially after a storm occurs. This will be the easiest way to tell if you have surface damage to your shingles and flashing, which can indicate issues further within your roof. Your roof has many layers and damage to the outside can soon lead to leaks and rodent infestations in your attic, as well as water damage to the rest of your home. If you begin to notice stains on your ceiling, it can be a sign that a leak is formed and a professional inspection is necessary.

Contacting a Professional Roofing Contractor

In order to prevent major issues requiring a roof replacement, you should have your roof inspected by a professional contractor at least twice per year, before and after the snowy season. This number may fluctuate depending on several factors, including your location, visible damage to the naked eye and the age of the roof. While a roof is designed to last, once it hits the 20-year mark it is vital to keep up with maintenance and consider replacement. Once the roof has lasted 20 years, the end of its expected lifespan is near and the roof may begin to fail.
