Your roof is arguably the most important part of your home’s exterior. After all, it’s what protects us from the elements day in and day out. While your roof does an excellent job of defending you from the harshness of mother nature, one thing it may not be able to resist is fire damage. In today’s article, US Roofing shares how you can reduce the risk of fire damage to your residential roofing system.
1. Use the Right Materials
One thing you should try to remember when shopping around for a new roof is that not all roofing materials are created equal. Roofing materials can either be unrated or belong to one of three categories when it comes to fire ratings. Class A offers the best protection, followed by Class B. Class C is the least fire-resistant. Avoid using unrated materials for your roof if you can help it to minimize the risk of fire damage to your roof.
2. Keep Your Roof Clean
You might think that a pile of leaves on your roof is harmless but this is wrong. If your roof is full of debris, you run the risk of it catching fire when exposed to extreme temperatures for an extended period of time. For this reason, you should always clean your roof or hire a professional for seasonal roof jobs.
3. Repair Gaps on Your Roof
Even with Class A roofing materials, your roof can still be susceptible to fire damage if there are damaged sections. For instance, missing shingles may allow a fire to reach the unprotected components underneath and spread. Any gap in your roof should be repaired immediately to keep you and your family protected, not just from leaks, but from fires as well.
