Types of Underlayment

Nevertheless, it is still a dependable material due to its flexibility and water-resistance. It is also widely available, making it the least expensive type of underlayment.

• Nonbitumen Synthetic – This is the most common type of underlayment. It’s essentially an upgrade from asphalt-saturated underlayment because it has better water-resistance. It’s also intended for full coverage of the entire roof, making it a cost-effective option for homeowners.

• Rubberized Asphalt – Rubberized asphalt is a premium underlayment material that offers all the benefits of the other two types of underlayment. It is completely waterproof due to its higher percentage of asphalt and rubber polymer. It is designed with a sticky back and a protective membrane between the support and the roof deck. It’s the most expensive type of underlayment.
