3 Things Not to Do When Planning a Roof Replacement Project

Investing in a new roof can help improve your home’s curb appeal and boost its weather protection. This is especially true if the residential roofing contractor you work with brings it up to code. It is a major home improvement that will allow you to recoup a considerable return on investment should you decide to list your property on the market.

Before you take steps to tackle this project, however, you must know what not to do when planning for it. US Roofing shares three of them below.

1. Choosing the Lowest Bid

It is ideal to obtain multiple quotes from prospective contractors just to give you an idea of how much your roof replacement project will cost. Expect one or two of these estimates to be much lower in price than the rest, and while they seem tempting, they don’t always indicate a good deal. A low bid could mean that the contractor is offering materials and components of substandard quality. It’s also likely that they are trying to fit the project to your budget, which may mean cutting corners to get things done at the quickest time possible.

2. Failing to Read the Contract Before Signing

The roof replacement contract will contain all the necessary information about the project, from the cost of the materials and labor to the timeline of completion. Before signing the contract, read everything carefully. This way, you can iron out any concerns that need to be addressed until both you and the contractor are on the same page.

3. Hiring Any Roofer

Don’t go out hiring the first roofer you see online. Keep in mind that the success of your roof replacement project depends on the experience and expertise of the team behind it. The level of investment this entails only means that the contractor you must hire for this major home improvement is licensed, insured and certified by the leading roofing manufacturers.
