Factors That Can Make a Roof Resilient

While it’s understandable that you’re excited over a new roof, it won’t make sense to replace it every often. Most asphalt shingle roofs are rated to work for at least 20 years before you need to replace them, although some do require replacement due to storm damage

However, the latter point is exactly why you need to shore up your roof’s defenses by making it more resilient and able to bounce back from any setback. In today’s post, US Roofing discusses key factors that can lengthen a roof’s life span and overall durability.

Strength

The strength of a roofing material lies in its ability to withstand damage, such as from impact (like hailstorms or falling trees). In general, the flatter the slope of the roof, the better it can weather damage, which makes commercial properties better positioned to resist such an attack. However, some specialized asphalt shingles, like from GAF, can bear impact damage as well.

Still, US Roofing can help you in case you need flat roof roof replacements. From metal roofing to slate, you only need to call us.

Elemental Resistance

While it sounds like a stat from a Dungeons & Dragons game, elemental resistance applies to wind, fire and water resistance. It describes how a roof can protect from sudden gusts, leaks and instances of fire.

For wind resistance, the steeper the pitch of the roof, the bigger damage wind can deal on it. It’s advisable to have a flatter construction, or else a design that can harness wind direction.

Water resistance comes into play by how well the roof was installed. Flashings should be placed in strategic places, and gutters should never be choked. Regular roof inspections are also helpful in this case, as they can help pinpoint early signs of leaks before they do happen.

Finally, regular asphalt shingles aren’t exactly fire-resistant, which is why homeowners in wildfire-prone areas use fire-retardants like slate and metal. Some newer advances in asphalt shingle construction, however, now employ some fireproof materials, so it could be worthwhile to ask your contractor for specifics.

US Roofing is the area’s top contractor because we apply best practices to make your roof last as long as possible. Talk to us today to learn more by calling us at (978) 532-.6300. You can also fill out our form to get started.
